That's kind of dependent on your receiver-my cheap Onkyo has never bothered me with any delay, regardless of which screen I run the game on. It's kind of silly to pay for a external surround sound card when there's one built in, but that or USB connected surround speakers are a neater solution than a 20 lb, 500 watt-using surround receiver. Then you're only running the receiver when you want surround sound.
#5.1 external sound card for laptop tv#
I would recommend this since it's monitor and not TV (I assume you will always want the monitor on, I infrequently drive the TV). Your scenario, if you're only using the one display and don't need the other port for VR, would be drive the monitor out one port and the receiver out the other. You can test to make sure it's hitting all the speakers individually. Right click speaker, open sound settings, sound control panel, right click on device and do configure speakers to set it to 5.1 (or whatever). You can spend hours of your life hacking the. The display works better, it knows the TV specs through the receiver. So since the TV is assumed to have stereo speakers only, it won't let you send 5.1 audio even though the TV hands it off to the receiver. It will get both downstream devices, but uses the first for configuration. inf files for the digitally connected display/audio devices. You have both.ĭo not do laptop-tv-receiver. So the only way to get it out of a laptop as-is is HDMI/display port, without some kind of expensive USB box. Worked great for music over toslink, but can't carry surround sound. My old computer was a MSI with spdif optical out. I put my receiver in "all channel stereo" instead of direct for it to sound right for music as opposed to a movie. When I want just music, the receiver still shows up in audio output selector even with the TV off. If you will be gaming, what are the most demanding games you will play and at what settings?
